Kammerballetten is a Copenhagen-based dance company that creates and presents new ballets by today's choreographers. Each performance is brought to life with live music performed by the musicians of the award-winning ensemble Trio Vitruvi, who founded the company in 2018.
With the support of a special grant from the Augustinus Foundation, Trio Vitruvi saw an opportunity to rejuvenate chamber music. By engaging a range of international choreographers to create new ballets with some of Denmark's most talented ballet dancers, Kammerballetten has rapidly grown, making it possible to realize the dream of a company that annually elevates its ambitions and standards, both nationally and internationally.
Our ambition is to premiere exciting and relevant new ballets that push the boundaries of classical music and ballet. We strive to define the dance language of the future.
Kammerballetten is led by Alexander McKenzie, who, in addition to his role as Artistic Director, is also a composer and pianist in Trio Vitruvi, alongside Associate Director, Royal Ballet dancer Emma McKenzie.
Driven by a love for the intensity and intimacy of music and dance, and a curiosity for the new and unknown, Kammerballetten received the prestigious Reumert Award for "Dance Performance of the Year" in 2020 and was nominated again in 2023.
Over the past five years, Kammerballetten has performed in the USA, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Latvia, and across Denmark.
TRIO VITRUVI consists of: Niklas Walentin, Jacob la Cour, and Alexander McKenzie.
